MY BOOKSTORE: I Write & Publish Books For Inquisitive Minds, Like Yours!

INDIAN COUNTRY MAP OF THE SOUTHWEST!

MISSION STATEMENT! The books I write and feature on this website stimulate the intellect, celebrate the open spaces, and encourage the virtue of humanity. Most of these works highlight the American Southwest's national parks & monuments, tribal & state parks, and archeological ruins scattered across the eye candy province of North America: the Colorado Plateau Province due west of the Rockies. My impassioned advocacy for the outdoors and the environment is especially focused on preservation and sustainability of revered and engaging scenic destinations. By supporting my bookstore's selections, you are also supporting the future because being proactive is the essential requirement that augments awareness and a higher consciousness given what's happening to the environment due to aggressive development, overpopulation of our species, and the rhetoric of narrow-minded politicians who tend to support an oligarchy and special interests at the expense of taking care of America's diminishing natural resources.  We can and must do better for the Earth Mother and all creatures great and small. Stand up for what's right and good for all of us, starting with protecting the environment at all levels! We all need to do better for future generations.

Presently, there are almost 40 books listed in my bookstore, including an exclusive Colorado Plateau 10-book series and a 17-volume mini-series Road Tours of the Southwest. Additionally, I co-authored a math-lab textbook about aerospace and astronautics based on innovative S.T.E.M. projects. My books are available in a glossy paperback cover and a KINDLE (e-book) format, all of which are featured on my exclusive Author's Page: http://amzn.to/2luqTNk.

These quality print-on-demand books and e-books are published by CreateSpace. Kindly note: Indy-published authors, like me, depend on reader evaluations and comments! This is the only means to get our published works noticed by the public and gain a larger presence on the Internet. That said, when ordering a book or books, please, please write a review.

Thanks for perusing my website bookstore. I appreciate hearing from readers or potential readers, especially thoughtful, applicable commentary that helps improve my writings and this website. When responding, click on this embedded email address:

WHAT  I WRITE & CARE ABOUT

Given all my writings, I focus on the geomorphology of the Colorado Plateau's ancient landscape––archeology, ecology, zoology, flora and fauna, the environment (sustainability or lack thereof), ecosystems, global warming and climate change; and human history. Additionally, I write about res dogs (strays) on tribal lands; the emperor penguins of Antarctica; aerospace and astronautic S.T.E.M. mathematic projects; aviation based on a true story about plane crash and personal and spiritual life-changing consequences; philosophy (Western and Eastern); eco-awareness based on sustainability; transpersonal poetry and prose based on Nature and the Self; dramatic novels about the former Grand Canyon burros, a Gothic-Existential mystery, and venturesome 19th-century explorers (i.e., Major John Wesley Powell, Antarctica's Heroric Age explorers––Scott, Shackleton, and Amundsen); and travel-related tourism throughout the Southwest. And here's the rest of the books that are featured in my bookstore of sundry subject matter:

THE WHAT, WHO, WHEN, WHERE
(but I don’t know WHY) ASPECTS OF RICH’s LIFE

Abstract: Writer, educator-guide, pro-environmentalist, lovers of all creatures great and small, and “Dr. Rich,” as some of his former students used to call him, invested his life and times in many interests connected to many employment opportunities. Still, the common denominator of how he made his living throughout his adult life centers on learning, sharing, and teaching others what inspired him to serve in the educator’s role. What follows in the longer Curriculum Vitae is Rich’s wordy account center on is grist for the mill achievements and challenges.

• • •

The Main Events: Writing under the name Richard Kerry Holtzin or Rich Holtzin, early on he pursued an academic career in Eastern and Western Philosophy, earning the big three degrees. For the most part, he later decided on making a living working as an outdoor educator and guide, which was more to his liking. Thus, teaching a variety of geosciences, human, and natural history. Before his university studies and working life, Rich was in the Navy for six years, working and assigned to an admiral’s staff, Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW). Arguably, he says he had the best gig in the Navy. After being Honorably Discharged, including receiving a Letter of Meritorious Accommodation, since 1970, he spent nearly forty years due west of the 100th Parallel, mainly hiking and backpacking throughout the Colorado Plateau Province (aka “The 4 Corners Region” of the Southwest). To mention some of Rich’s myriad interests and employment opportunities during this post-Pennsylvania Renaissance period, he taught guitar and music theory for some twenty-five years, which included performances as a professional studio and stage musician; composing and recording two soundtracks for the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Parks; a licensed high school Educational Assistant and Substitute Teacher (math and science classes); a commercial pilot flying a variety of aircraft; professional photographer; GPS surveyor and topographical mapper for the U. S. Forest Service; whitewater boatman on the Green, Colorado, and Yampa rivers; planetarium control room operator and cosmologist; museum docent; and rounding up his eclectic employment record, he was once on the payroll with the Pennsylvania State Police and employed by an Arizona sheriff’s department. So much for growing up and not knowing what to do with one’s life, eh?

All that said, Rich's foremost allure in the praxis and dance of life centers on environmental issues while advancing the cause and empathy for all creatures great and small. Utilizing his talents and experiences in the capacity of an educator, as well as an interpretive guide, he was an instructor and guide with the Grand Canyon Field Institute for nearly twenty years (http://bitly/1D6YS1u), and taught similar outdoor classes for Northern Arizona University and Yavapai College (respectively, Flagstaff and Prescott). Additionally, he owned and operated an eco and cultural enterprise based on educational tourism throughout the Four Corners region (www.ecosouthwest.com). Soon after moving back to New Mexico (around 2010), he returned to substitute teaching and later became the Executive Director of a think tank in Albuquerque, based on astronautics and aerospace math-lab oriented S.T.E.M. high school classroom projects* (www.stemfortheclassroom.org). Since 2014, Rich's creative endeavors are geared to publishing numerous writings whose titles and varied subject matter are posted on his informative website: www.richholtzin.com

For the most part, Rich's writings espouse and describe the incomparable beauty and diversity of the Southwest’s plethora of scenic icons. In the spring of 2018, he signed on as a travel and publishing consultant for North America's largest inbound Asian tourism enterprise. Ergo, contracted as the company's Tour Program Adviser. And so he's back in the educator's role once again.

Given his extensive and diverse employment track record since his former submariner days, in Rich's words, "I think it's better to wear out than rust out!"

Another motto that conforms with Rich's singular personality and lifestyle is the quirkish saying, "I may not know where I'm going in life, but I  know where I've been!"
